Laureate and cuirassed bust right / Mars standing right, holding reversed spear and resting hand on shield set on ground to right; –|–//PLN. RIC VI –; RML 206 (forthcoming); C&T 5.03.011; Pierre Bastien, “Some Comments on the Coinage of the London Mint, A.D. 297-313,”” NC 1971, pl. 33, 8 (this coin). Even brown patina. Good VF. Very rare.
Per Lee Toone: “A very rare reverse type for this period. The series of which this coin type is a part was only struck for a month or so at the end of 307 just before Constantine I became Augustus and is thought to celebrate the alliance between Maximian and Constantine.” For further information see C&T pp. 48-49.
